Vente d’Elevage reaches new heights

The fourth and final day of the Vente d’Elevage saw 159 mares, fillies and foals go under the hammer. More than 80% of the lots that went through the ring changed hands for an average price of €4,578, generating a turnover of €586,000.

Assessment of the 2021 Vente d’Elevage: an exceptional edition

The last sale of the year in Deauville, the Vente d’Elevage recorded record results at all levels. Over the four days, 76% of the 907 horses offered were sold for an unprecedented average price of €60,314 which for the first time rose above €210,000 for Part I.

The final turnover of €41,556,000 exceeding the €40 million mark for the first time.

Sumbe tops consignors’ table

Offering their first ever consignment in their blue and yellow colours which included the exceptional performers ROUGIR and SPEAK OF THE DEVIL, Sumbe topped the consignors’ table with a turnover of €5,352,000. The runner-spot went to Haras des Capucines, that sold 22 lots for a total of €3,373,000, with a top price of €2 million for PURPLEPAY. Notably the vendor of GRAND GLORY, Haras de Castillon completed the podium with 18 lots sold for €3,155,500.

Fourth on the list, Ecurie des Monceaux sold 21 lots for a total of €2,519,000, followed by Gestüt Ammerland, that also had a very good sale, notably offering WILDFEDER, a half-sister to Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr.1) winner WALDGEIST, that was sold for €2,050,000 to Crispin de Moubray.

Buyers’ table: Oceanic Bloodstock takes top spot

The purchaser of seven lots for €4,950,000, Michel Zerolo (Oceanic Bloodstock) was leading buyer at the sale. He was followed by Anne Sophie Yoh (YOHEA) with four lots bought for a total of €2,572,500 and Crispin De Moubray with three purchases for €2,096,000.

With five millionaire fillies in the first session and a turnover in excess of €40 million for the first time, the sale continued its upward trajectory and has now taken on a whole new dimension. All the ingredients were present and this resulted in very good prices in the ring. Four of the five fillies sold for a seven-figure price were acquired as yearlings at Deauville in August or October, and some owners did not hesitate to reinvest during the sale, such as with Tickle Me Green and Sun Bear. The quality of the catalogue attracted many buyers from the United States, Japan, England, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Spain, Italy, Turkey and all over France.
