Frankie Dettori records 75th Royal Ascot winner with victory on Indie Angel
Frankie Dettori saluted the crowd after his 75th Royal Ascot winner aboard 22-1 shot Indie Angel in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes.
Indie Angel, who provided Cheveley Park Stud with a record fifth success in the Group 2, flew down the inside to beat Lady Bowthorpe and Queen Power, who both raced down the middle of the track.
“Everything went right,” Dettori told ITV Racing. “She likes fast ground, cover and plenty of room. She got all three things today.”

The jockey shared the post-race spotlight with groom Viktor Konya, who was in tears after watching Indie Angel win by two and a half lengths. He said: “It’s amazing. I’m still in shock and I don’t know what to say. I’m so happy and so grateful to be around her daily.”
Champers Elysees was fourth and finished three-quarters of a length behind the Amanda Perrett-trained Lavender’s Blue.
It was a third success of the week for John and Thady Gosden, who struck on the opening day with top miler Palace Pier and Amtiyaz.
Cheltenham star Gavin Cromwell saddles first Royal Ascot winner with Quick Suzy
Gavin Cromwell’s first runner at Royal Ascot proved a winner as 8-1 chance Quick Suzy stayed on strongly under Gary Carroll to deny favourite Twilight Gleaming in the Queen Mary Stakes.
It was similarly a first winner at the royal meeting for Carroll, who heaped praise on a trainer who added Stayers’ Hurdle and Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle success to his CV in March.
Carroll said: “Fair play to Gavin Cromwell – from three-mile stayers to five furlongs at Ascot, he can do it.
“She was very good today and travelled so sweetly. I knew she would get to the line and probably outstay the American horse. She was very genuine and is a very good filly.”

The US raiders showed their customary speed out of the stalls, with Artos leading the far-side group and Twilight Gleaming, whose trainer Wesley Ward was seeking a fifth victory in the race, showing the way on the stands’ side.
It looked like the favourite may oblige with two furlongs to run as she hit the front and John Velazquez asked her for more, but it soon became apparent that Quick Suzy, a Curragh maiden winner on her second of three previous starts, was the main threat.
Carroll’s mount was upsides just inside the final furlong and readily asserted for a length-and-a-quarter triumph.
Cromwell said: “It’s absolutely unbelievable – it’s such an occasion here so to have a winner is just fantastic.
“I was very confident she would run a big race, but we didn’t know how she would lay up with the US or British-trained horses.”
Artos kept on towards the centre of the track for fourth, with third place going to outsider Cheerupsleepyjean, who finished to good effect behind the principals on the stands’ side.
Kemari keeps up awesome run for Derby winning trainer Charlie Appleby
Derby-winning trainer Charlie Appleby got off the mark at Royal Ascot this year when 15-2 shot Kemari landed the Queen’s Vase on Wednesday.
It was a second victory at the meeting for jockey William Buick, who scored with 66-1 chance Reshoun in the Ascot Stakes on Tuesday.
Buick said: “It was only his third run today. He stays well. Charlie always thought this race would suit him.
“It was a very good performance. He’s a horse we don’t really know a lot about. He did that very well. He had a lovely trip round.”
Appleby added: “I have to give William Buick a lot of credit. William was very excited when he broke his maiden at Yarmouth.
“I questioned what level we were taking him. But William gave him a great ride.
“He could hopefully turn into a nice Cup horse next year. Melbourne Cup this year? We will see.”
Aidan O’Brien’s 100-30 favourite Wordsworth finished well under Ryan Moore but had to settle for second place.
He is quoted at 8-1 (from 12-1) for the Cazoo St Leger by Paddy Power. Well-backed stablemate Kyprios was withdrawn at the start after trying to break out the front of the stalls. A rule 4 deduction of 15p in the pound was applied to all bets.
