Galileo’s Magical Denies Ghaiyyath In the Irish Champion

Magical downs Ghaiyyath in the Irish Champion | racingfotos.com

There was a seventh Group 1 success for Magical (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and a second renewal of Leopardstown’s G1 Irish Champion S. on Saturday as the remarkable mare downed Ghaiyyath (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) in a sensational renewal. Keen to keep close tabs on that 8-13 favourite from the outset, the 9-2 second favourite ranged alongside Godolphin’s colossus in the straight and by the furlong pole it was clear that she had his measure. Perhaps idling for Seamie Heffernan thereafter, the 5-year-old earned a 3/4-of-a-length success, with the fellow Ballydoyle outsider Armory (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) only 1 1/4 lengths behind in third.

Leger Triumph For Australia’s Galileo Chrome

Galileo Chrome and Tom Marquand | racingfotos.com

There was joy for Tom Marquand and despair for Shane Crosse as Galileo Chrome (Ire) (Australia {GB}) battled to G1 Pertemps St Leger glory at Doncaster on Saturday. Earning this tilt with success in the Aug. 29 Listed Yeats S. at Navan, the 4-1 shot was mid-division early off the searching pace. Staying on to get the better of Berkshire Rocco (Fr) (Sir Percy {GB}) in the last 100 yards, he earned a neck success, as Pyledriver (GB) (Harbour Watch {Ire}) was a length away in third and 5-2 favourite Santiago (Ire) (Authorized {Ire}) fourth.

Elzaam’s Champers Elysees Swoops In the Matron

Champers Elysees | racingfotos.com

Rapidly-progressive in 2020, Fitzwilliam Racing’s Champers Elysees (Ire) (Elzaam {Aus}) continued her upward mobility with an authoritative success in Leopardstown’s G1 Coolmore America ‘Justify’ Matron S. on Saturday. Restrained early tucked in to the rear of mid-division, the 9-2 shot had much ground to make up two out but unleashed her lethal acceleration to cut down the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Peaceful (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) 100 yards from the line. Soon clear under Colin Keane, the July 28 Listed Corrib Fillies S. and Sept. 2 G3 Fairy Bridge S. winner gave trainer Johnny Murtagh a first Group 1 win by 1 1/4 lengths, with Peaceful 1 1/2 lengths ahead of the 9-4 favourite Fancy Blue (Ire) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) in third.
