The odds were 2-7 and there was never any doubt that Shadwell’s Battaash (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) would pull off a fourth renewal of Goodwood’s G2 King George Qatar S. on Friday. Recording his fastest time (55.62) in the race in the process, the G1 Nunthorpe S., G1 King’s Stand S. and G1 Prix de l’Abbaye hero was shadowed by last year’s G1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner Glass Slippers (GB) (Dream Ahead) but was comfortably on top at the line to score by 2 1/4 lengths, with Ornate (GB) (Bahamian Bounty {GB}) a neck away in third as he replicated his position in this 12 months ago. The first three home broke his previous track record.

Brilliant Battaash breaks his own record in fourth King George success
Battaash smashed the course record at Goodwood when scorching to a historic fourth consecutive victory in the King George Qatar Stakes.
The clock stopped at 55.62s, which was well below the 56.02s Battaash set in the race last year.
In an incredible display of raw speed, the Charlie Hills-trained six-year-old took up the running at around the halfway point and it quickly became a race against the clock.
Last year Battaash lowered the track record he had set the previous year and he shaved even more time off it as he led home Glass Slippers (14-1) as the 2-7 favourite under Jim Crowley. Both the second and Ornate, who finished in third, also broke the record.
