Stevie Donohoe has his third mount for John Gosden in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase (4.10) as he keeps the ride on the Anthony Oppenheimer-owned homebred On Guard.
Donohoe’s first success for the Clarehaven trainer came on On Guard at Yarmouth eight days ago, where the three-year-old scored by a neck in novice company.
On Guard steps up in trip and grade but is not without a chance with Donohoe seeking his second Royal Ascot success, three years on from partnering Rajasinghe to victory in the Coventry Stakes.
One trainer
Roger Varian has enjoyed a stellar meeting so far with four winners and three on day three. Day four promises plenty for the Newmarket trainer.
The unbeaten Setarhe and Undertake contest the Albany Stakes (1.50) followed by stable star Defoe bidding for back-to-back wins in the Hardwicke Stakes (3.00).
Commonwealth Cup (3.35) market principal Pierre Lapin completes Varian’s strong squad although has to prove his liking for ease in the ground.
One horse
A future star could be unearthed in the Norfolk Stakes (2.25) with favourite Eye Of Heaven breaking the two-year-old track record at Newmarket on his debut earlier this month.
That form has already been franked with the third Tactical winning the Windsor Castle Stakes and the second Get It running a good race in fourth in the same contest.
Frankie Dettori keeps the ride on Eye Of Heaven and favourite backers will be hoping for a big show.
One race
The new 5f three-year-old handicap that begins proceedings (1.15) promises to be a cracker with soft ground favouring the market leader Art Power.
No Ascot handicap is a straightforward task though and Dancin Inthestreet, City Walk and Golden Dragon are among a number of runners who could be ahead of their marks.
Hayley Turner bids for a second success of the meeting aboard the Andrew Balding-trained Never Dark, who looked a sprinter worth following when making all at Kempton last time.
