   All eyes were on Expert Eye (GB) (Acclamation {GB}) in Saturday’s G1 Darley Dewhurst S. at Newmarket, but it was Aidan O’Brien’s Ballydoyle who stole the show by filling the first four places in a remarkable show of dominance as they gained a 24th worldwide top-level success in 2017. Making all and completely domineering affairs to set a new track record, U S Navy Flag (War Front) became the first since Diesis (GB) in 1982 to complete the G1 Middle Park-Dewhurst double to justify the authority’s decision to move the former race back to its earlier slot off this card. After steering the full-brother to last week’s G1 Sun Chariot S. heroine Roly Poly to a 2 1/2-length success from the 50-1 shot Mendelssohn (Scat Daddy), who was in turn the same margin clear of Seahenge (Scat Daddy) and another head in front of Threeandfourpence (War Front), Ryan Moore said, “He’s been a remarkable horse from midsummer and this is a very tough family. It was a good Dewhurst today and he was strong at the line. This is a massive feat and he is amazingly similar to Roly Poly–both give you absolutely everything. They are not the biggest, but they seem to keep getting better every time they get to the track.” Expert Eye was the 4-7 favourite and after racing far too freely early on faded to be last.

SABATO 14 OTTOBRE 2017. Newmarket: Dominazione O’Brien nelle #Dewhurst! Primi 4 al palo, vince Us Navy Flag. Ultimo Expert Eye

 

1-2-3-4. Invece 24 sono i G1 vinti in stagione. Tempo di 1m 22.37s (fast by 0.13s) e record della corsa. A parole abbiamo terminato gli aggettivi per descrivere le potenzialità di Aidan O’Brien che, al netto di tutto, continua ad esprimersi in numeri. 

Anche nelle Dewhurst Stakes G1 ha mostrato di che potenzialità dispone il suo arsenale qualitativamente e quantitativamente parlando, una vera e propria industria di campioni acquistati o allevati. Di 300 che doma, 200 passano i primi test, 100 sono in grado di correre e 5 sono fortissimi. E quando ci sono edizioni come queste delle Dewhurst capita pure di occupare tutti e tre i gradini del podio, anche con una riserva. 

A vincere è stato Us Navy Flag (War Front), fratello pieno di Roly Poly, che ha battuto Mendelssohn (Scat Daddy) per il secondo con al terzo Seahenge (Scat Daddy) e quarto Threeandfourpence (War Front). Ed Expert Eye (Acclamation), favorito a 3/10? Ultimo. Dopo aver provato a seguire la scia di Us Navy Flag, concentratissimo con il suo paraocchi e Ryan Moore didasca, filato via verso la meta a tempo di record e dopo aver rispolverato il doppio Middle Park-Dewhurst che non riusciva dal 1982 con Diesis.

Numeri, storia che si riscrive e qualità a fiumi. Questo è il tema dominante per Padre Aidan che dopo Woodbine in Canada avrà altri G1 tra Francia e sabato ad Ascot per raggiungere Bobby Frankel e chi lo sa, magari superare quei famosi 25 G1 vinti in stagione.

Quanto a queste Dewhurst, Us Navy Flag era a 8/1 in discesa perchè ha cambiato faccia da un certo punto della stagione in avanti. Mendellsohn invece, dopo un debutto che non fa testo ha vinto la sua corsa e poi alla terza in carriera, a Doncaster nelle Champagne Stakes aveva preso una testata ed era rimasto ultimo. Oggi, con il paraocchi, ha ribaltato il riferimento lasciando Seahenge al terzo. 

Quanto al favorito c’è da capire cosa sia successo anche perchè dopo Goodwood aveva saltato un appuntamento in quanto vittima di problemi respiratori, evidentemente non tutti risolti.
