Galileo’s The Anvil Off the Mark At Dundalk
6th at DUN, Mdn, 12000 | Dundalk Stadium Business Club Maiden | (10f 150y) | Winner: The Anvil (Ire), c, 3 by Galileo (Ire) |
By Tom Frary
6th-DUN, €12,000, Mdn, 3-31, 3yo, 10f 150y (AWT), 2:17.20, st.
THE ANVIL (IRE) (c, 3, Galileo {Ire}–Brightest {GB}, by Rainbow Quest), back into maiden company after a second in the G2 Royal Lodge S. and third in the G3 Autumn S. over a mile at Newmarket and a disappointing 10th placing in the G1 Racing Post Trophy, was allowed to travel to the front after halfway with the pace not strong enough. Asked to put his seal on the race in the final quarter mile, the 3-10 favourite pulled away late to win by 5 1/2 lengths from Mauricio (Ire) (Helmet {Aus}).
The winner is a half-brother to the G3 Brownstown S. scorer Glowing (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), GSW-Ire, $114,685, and the smart French stayer Glaring (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}), MGSP-Fr, $122,422. Brightest is a daughter of the G1 Irish Oaks heroine Wemyss Bight (GB) (Dancing Brave) and therefore a half to Beat Hollow (GB) who made such a mark for Juddmonte Stateside when racking up a series of high-profile wins in the GI Arlington Million, GI Woodford Reserve Turf Classic and GI Manhattan H. to supplement his European highlight when successful in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris.
This is the amazing family of such diverse high-class performers as the G1 Prix du Jockey Club hero New Bay (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), champion sprinter and highly influential sire Oasis Dream (GB) and leading miler Kingman (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), as well as the stayers headed by the G1 Prix du Cadran-winning sire Reefscape (GB). Next up from Brightest is a yearling filly by Australia (GB). Lifetime Record: MGSP-Eng, 6-1-2-2, €48,222. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.

Sea the Stars Filly Shows Promise On Tapeta Debut
3rd at NC , Mdn, 5000 | 32Red Casino Maiden Fillies’ S. | (8f 5y) | Winner: The Sky Is Blazing (Ire), f, 3 by Sea the Stars (Ire) |
By Tom Frary
3rd-NC, £5,000, Mdn, 3-31, 3yo, f, 8f 5y (AWT), 1:39.34, st.
+THE SKY IS BLAZING (IRE) (f, 3, Sea the Stars {Ire}–Mamonta {GB}, by Fantastic Light), a €160,000 GOFNOV foal and 240,000gns TATOCT yearling, was a touch slow from the stalls and then keen throughout the early stages held up towards rear.
Looking in trouble passing halfway, the 6-4 second favourite picked up impressively when the penny dropped and after subduing Multicultural (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) approaching the furlong pole drew away despite still looking green to win by four lengths. As a full-sister to Godolphin’s G2 Lancashire Oaks winner and G1 Prix Vermeille and G1 Prix Royal Oak runner-up Endless Time (Ire), GSW-Eng, SW-Ire & MG1SP-Fr, $332,153, it is expected that a step up in trip will only bring out better in the winner who has a 2-year-old half-brother by Shamardal named Ikaab (Ire) and a yearling half-brother by Dawn Approach (Ire).
From an Aga Khan dynasty, the dam is a half to the G2 Prix de Royallieu winner Mouramara (Ire) (Kahyasi {Ire}) whose staying sons Mourayan (Ire) (Alhaarth {Ire}) and Mourilyan (Ire) (Desert Prince {Ire}) made their mark on the international stage courtesy of a win in the G1 Sydney Cup and a third in the G1 Irish Derby for the former and a third in the G1 Melbourne Cup for the latter. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $4,033. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
