Altior, Mega Fortune and Finian’s Oscar: Another Excellent Weekend For Goffs Graduates… |
Altior’s unbeaten record over fences was maintained in superb style as the seven year old landed the Grade 2 Betfair Exchange Chase at Newbury on Saturday for Nicky Henderson, Nico De Boinville and owner Mrs Patricia Pugh. Altior gave another excellent jumping display before easing to a 13 length win, and last year’s Supreme Novice Hurdle winner was subseuqently cut to 1-3 for the Grade 1 Arkle Chase next month at the Cheltenham Festival. Altior was purchased at the Land Rover Sale 2013 by David Minton of Highflyer Bloodstock from Kilmoney Cottage Stud for €60,000.
The Gordon Elliott trained Mega Fortune is firmly on target for the Triumph Hurdle following his victory in the Grade 1 Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday. Ridden by Davy Russell, the four year old turned the tables on favourite Bapaume, who he had finished third to in a Grade 2 contest at Leopardstown Christmas meeting, to win by 3 1/2 lengths for owner Chris Jones. Mega Fortune was sold as a yearling at Goffs in 2014 by Airlie Stud to Andy Oliver for €19,000.
Finian’s Oscar meanwhile followed last month’s Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle success with a comfortable win in the Listed Free Bet At 188Bet Novices’ Hurdle at Exeter on Saturday for Colin Tizzard and Ann and Alan Potts. Sent off 1/16 favourite, the five year old made easy work of the opposition under Tom O’Brien and will run in either the Neptune or Supreme Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham. Finian’s Oscar was bred and sold by Richard and Martin O’Keefe at Goffs December National Hunt Sale 2012 to Richard Frisby for €24,000.
