Promising 2yo filly Rhododendron, a full sister to new KZN sire Flying The Flag, has been entered for the G2 Lowther Stakes at York.
 
This 1200m contest for two-year-old fillies has been used as a traditional prep for the following year’s classics, with previous winners including subsequent classic winners Humble Duty, Enstone Spark, Mrs Penny, Al Bahathri, Culture Vulture, Harayir, Cape Verdi, and Russian Rhythm.
 
 
 
 
HK: HONG KONG RACING SHOWS “TREMENDOUS RESILIENCE” AS 2015/16 SEASON CLOSES ON A HIGH
 
 
 Outstanding sport underpinned Hong Kong’s 2015/16 season, which closed out at Sha Tin racecourse today, Sunday, 10 July, with a stronger than anticipated financial performance across its 83 race meetings. Champions were crowned before an enthusiastic crowd of 45,783, and, with the season’s HK$106.14 billion total turnover the second-highest ever recorded – only marginally down on last year’s all-time peak figure – the season finale offered measured optimism for next season when the Hong Kong racing calendar will extend to 88 fixtures.
 
 

 

HK: WERTHER IS HONG KONG HORSE OF THE YEAR
 
 
Werther claimed the Hong Kong Horse of the Year award at a sparkling ceremony held at the Grand Hyatt tonight, Friday 8 July. Hong Kong’s standout four-year-old followed-up a thrilling victory in this year’s BMW Hong Kong Derby with a stunning wide-margin triumph over elite international opponents in the G1 Audemars Piguet QEII Cup, both at Sha Tin this spring.
 
 

 

GB: RECORD TURNOVER AT TATTERSALLS JULY SALE
 
 
 
The third and final day of the Tattersalls July Sale saw trade continue in robust fashion, pushing the turnover for the sale past the previous record set ten years ago. A total of 175 lots were sold for 2,660,700 guineas on day three, at an average of 15,204 guineas and a median of 8,500 guineas. This took the three-day totals to 572 lots sold for 12,311,329 guineas, a rise of 38% on the corresponding session last year.
