LUNEDÌ 2 MAGGIO 2016 Oriente: Il grigio #Chautauqua sorprende ancora a Sha Tin. #Maurice si conferma nel Champions Mile. In Giappone Kitasan Black vince il Tenno Sho di primavera

Ne sono successe di cose in giro per il mondo nel weekend. Piano piano parliamo di quelle più interessanti. Dopo l’Europa, in oriente abbiamo visto ancora una sfavillante affermazione del “cangurone” grigio Chautauqua(Encosta De Lago) (si pronuncia sciotòca) che ha fatto un altro numero da circo nel THE CHAIRMAN’S SPRINT PRIZE G1 sui 1200 di Sha Tin, dopo quello al Royal Randwick documentato qualche settimana fa. Il castrone di 5 anni di Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes e di proprietà della R & C Legh Racing, G P I Racing Et Al, con Tommy Berry in sella è partito come al solito lentamente in un ippodromo dove non puoi regalare un centimetro quadro, ha scurvato larghissimo e ai 190 metri dal palo non era ancora inquadrato. Con un finale fulminante, a parziali invertiti, ha ficcato sotto i vari sprinter locali Lucky Bubbles (Sebring), Strathmore (Fastnet Rock) con al quarto Gold-Fun (Le Vie Dei Colori) con Olivier Peslier a bordo con un tempo di 1m 8.69s. Nulla da fare per gli eroi locali Aereovelocity (8°), Peniaphobia (13°) e l’australiano Buffering (ultimo), vincitore dell’Al Quoz Sprint G1 di Meydan un mesetto fa. Per Chautauqua era la quinta affermazione in G1 ed ora punta al Royal Ascot sulle orme della campionessa Black Caviar, ed è forse il miglior velocista del mondo in questo periodo. Era il favorito delle Diamond Jubilee Stakes G1 sui 1200 del 18 Giugno prossimo al Royal Ascot. Ma non è certo che andrà…anzi, il suo nome nel giro di poche ore è sparito dall’antepost stesso. Ha corso sinora 17 volte, 11 vittorie e 5 piazzamenti per un cavallo sempre più simpatico. E non perchè vince, ma per come vince.. Se dovesse vincere anche in Inghilterra potrebbe portarsi a casa un bonus di $1 milione stanziato dalla Global Sprint Challenge per chi vince in 3 paesi differenti. Intanto gustiamoci il suo affondo.

Sempre ad Hong Kong abbiamo visto ancora una vittoria dello straordinario giapponese Maurice (Screen Hero) il quale è tornato sulla scena del crimine della vittoria nell’Hong Kong Mile G1 di Dicembre, coronando un 2015 perfetto con 6 vittorie consecutive, tornando a vincere la sua prima del 2016, la quarta a livello di G1 della sua carriera nel Champions Mile G1 di Sha Tin. Montato da Joao Moreira, il cavallo di Noriyuki Hori ha sorvolato il gruppo da una posizione ideale (partiva con il 6 di gabbia) ed ha dominato Contentment (Hussonet) con al terzo Packing Pins (Pins) ed al quarto con onore l’italian bred Beauty Only (Holy Roman Emperor) finito a mezza lunghezza dal terzo. IL VIDEO QUI. Per Maurice non sono previsti viaggi in Europa al momento.

In Giappone, mentre Mirco Demuro è stato assente nelle ultime 2 settimane a causa dell’appiedamento subito nel Satsuki Sho G1 per 4 giornate (tornerà settimana prossima), si è corso il Tenno Sho G1 di primavera di Kyoto dove, a vincere, è stato il giovane Kitasan Black (Black Tide), vincitore del St Leger G1 nipponico lo scorso anno e rientrato con un secondo nel Sankei Osaka Hai G2 dello scorso mese il quale, con il leggendario Yutaka Take a bordo ha battuto di un muso Curren Mirotic (Heart’s Cry). Kitasan, allenato da Hisashi Shimizu, è il miglior figlio di Black Tide (Sunday Silence), stallone fratello pieno del crack Deep Impact ma di un anno più grande, che funziona presso la Breeders’ Stallion Station di Hokkaido ed è stato Champion Sire nel 2012 prima dell’esplosione di suo fratello. Ora ha 15 anni, in corsa era stato un campione, ma si era infortunato seriamente nelle Japanese 2,000 Guineas del 2004 a 3 anni. Tornato in corsa 2 anni dopo, ha corso fino a 6 anni ma senza tornare al massimo livello. Insomma, è un Deep Impact a buon mercato..

LUNEDÌ 2 MAGGIO 2016 Germania: #Isfahan vince il trial per il Derby tedesco G3 e vira con decisione al Derby Italiano del 22 Maggio a Capannelle

Un pò di occhi italiani erano puntati verso la Germania. A Monaco è andato in scena il pferdewetten.de – Bavarian Classic G3 sui 2000 metri come prova preparatoria per le Classiche tedesche ed in particolare del Derby tedesco di Amburgo. A vincerlo è statoIsfahan (Lord Of England), il cui team aveva già annunciato una trasferta in Italia nel Derby Italiano G2, con la rotta rimasta invariata dopo la bella affermazione da favorito, nei confronti del leader Nacar (Tertullian) e Karajol (Wiener Walzer), nelle mani di Edu Pedroza. Il vincitore è un portacolori della Darius Racing allenato da Andreas Wohler. IL VIDEO DELLA CORSA QUI. Come si vede il sauro ha seguito l’andatura a metà gruppo e ai 600 finali è andato in progressione continua sul leader, piegandolo poco prima del palo.

E’ un cavallo gestito da Holger Faust della HFTB Racing Agency, che in Italia ha già vinto il Lydia Tesio G1 con Sortilege per i colori del Gestüt Karlshof, mentre i proprietari della Darius Racing sono clienti dello stesso Faust. A 2 anni aveva vinto il Preis des Winterfavoriten G3 di Colonia con Umberto Rispoli in sella, prima di tentare il Grand Prix de Saint Cloud finendo nelle retrovie. Verrà a Roma ad affrontare il plotone della famiglia Botti, di cui parleremo a parte. Comunque al momento Isfahan vale un 94,5 di GAG, una buona misura per competere con chance nel Derby italiano del 22 Maggio 2016 a Capannelle, fra 3 settimane. Attualmente è il quarto favorito nell’antepost per il Derby tedesco.

Per la stessa giubba rosa della Darius Racing, la femmina Kenrivash (Kendargent) ha vinto la condizionata sul tracciato di Monaco come preparazione alle German 1,000 Guineas. Ma per ora non sembra abbia obiettivi italiani.

LUNEDÌ 2 MAGGIO 2016 Francia: #Dariyan si porta a casa il Ganay, obiettivo York. #Vadamos torna alla vittoria nel Prix du Muguet, obiettivo Ascot

In Francia molti motivi di interesse. Qualche minuto prima delle Dahlia Stakes G2 di Newmarket, lo stalloneShamardal (Giant’s Causeway) è stato rappresentato dal suo 12° vincitore di G1 (e 17° nel mondo) nel 4 anniDariyan che ha vinto il Prix Ganay G1 di Saint-Cloud con una eccellente monta da parte di Christophe Soumillon, guizzato nelle fasi finali nei confronti di Silverwave (Silver Frost) e dell’atteso Garlingari (Linngari), con al quarto posto il tedesco Wild Chief (Doyen) che era in procinto di venire a correre a Roma il Repubblica G1. Per il vincitore si è trattato di una conferma a questo livello dopo aver subito a Meydan il forte Postponed, per 2 volte, ma il suo allenatore Alain de Royer Dupre ha parlato di un cavallo che ama i tracciati “flat” e difatti non correrà il Prix d’Ispahan G1 sull’ondulato di Chantilly, ma correrà a lungo termine le Juddmonte International Stakes G1 di York il 17 Agosto. Sua Eccellenza l’Aga Khan ha fallito il doppio in giornata perchè Ervedya (Siyouni), alla ricomparsa, non è riuscita a battere Vadamos (Monsun), nella foto, nel Prix du Muguet G2. Vadamos, allenato da Andre Fabre, cresciuto tantissimo nella scorsa stagione in Germania con una esaltante vittoria a Baden Baden, è andato troppo male nelle Champion Stakes G1 vinte da Fascinating Rock, a causa di un virus poi riscontrato successivamente. Rientrato alle spalle di Solow in una condizionata di Chantilly, ha tentato la Dubai World Cup di Meudan finendo 11° di 12. Tornato in erba e sul miglio, ha fatto capire di poter valere un G1 europeo sulla distanza. Prossimo obiettivo le Queen Anne Stakes G1 al Royal Ascot. IL VIDEO QUI.

Creator Turns in Final Kentucky Derby Breeze

With WinStar Farm owner Kenny Troutt looking on, Arkansas Derby (gr. I) winnerCreator breezed four furlongs in :50 3/5 at Churchill Downs the morning of May in his final workout for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).

A 3-year-old son of Tapit out of Morena, a multiple group winner in her native Peru before placing in five graded stakes in the U.S., Creator worked four furlongs in :50 3/5, with fractional split times of :12 2/5, :25 1/5, and :38.

Trainer Steve Asmussen said the colt, who had four second-place finishes and a fifth before breaking his maiden in his sixth start, lacked focus early on. Then he put it all together in his maiden victory, which was followed by a third in the Rebel Stakes (gr. III) before he barreled his way through traffic to win the Arkansas Derby on April 16 atOaklawn Park.

“He’s always had a lot of talent,” said the trainer, who has been selected for induction into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame this year. “He’s a great physical, tremendous pedigree. It’s been in him. I think that he just lacked focus in his races. It was a bit frustrating running him because you felt like he should have won several of the races you watched him in. But he would have a mental lapse and just not finish up with the effort you knew he was capable of.

“I thought he gave us indicators pre-race in Arkansas that his focus had come around at the right time. In the Arkansas Derby I thought he showed a maturity and a focus that will come in very handy for him in a Derby field.”

Asmussen said he did not change anything with Creator’s routine in order to get him more focused.

“We try to stay steady with what we do,” he said. “I think when the day goes better, they know what to expect tomorrow. I do feel that the progression of Creator from a results standpoint is just how he’s finishing a race off. He was in good races with horses who have done well and you just wanted to see him put a little more effort into it and I think we’re there now. He liked the success he had (in Arkansas). I think that’s put a little different face on him as far as training.”

“Creator is one of the best horses we’ve had coming into the Derby,” said Troutt, whose farm won the Derby with Super Saver in 2010. “He’s developed late and grown up and matured. It looks like the further he goes the better he likes it. We’re very excited about Saturday. I have to be careful about getting too high on them because in the Derby you don’t have to be the best horse to win, but get the best racing luck.”

Bred in Kentucky by Mt. Brilliant Broodmares, Creator was purchased for $440,000 from the Gainesway consignment, agent for Mt. Brilliant, to the 2014 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Found impressive in cosy Mooresbridge win

Report: Curragh, Monday, Camelot European Breeders Fund Mooresbridge Stakes (Group 3) 1m2f, 4yo+

BREEDERS’ CUP TURF winner Found turned the tables on Fascinating Rock, reversing the form of last year’s Champion Stakes at Ascot, and exacted her revenge in stylish fashion to win the Group 3 contest.

Aidan O’Brien’s star filly stepped up markedly from a recent third on her return, though there was an anxious moment or two for Ryan Moore, who appeared trapped in behind Success Days and Fascinating Rock with a furlong to go.

However, Moore showed why many regard him as the best in the business as he threaded the needle between the two leaders and steered the 11-8 shot to a hands and heels length-and-a-quarter win.

Campaign mapped out

Betfair Sportsbook shortened Found to evens (from 5-2) for the Tattersalls Gold Cup at Curragh on May 22, while also making her 9-4 (from 7-2) for the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot and 10-1 (from 16) for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Found is also entered in the Coronation Cup at Epsom, for which she is a 3-1 chance with Betfair (from 7-2), but O’Brien has mapped out a globetrotting campaign for his talented daughter of Galileo that could limit domestic appearances.

O’Brien, fresh from success in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas with Minding, said: “Found hasn’t come in her coat and I didn’t think she’d come on as much as she seems to have.

“You’d have to be very happy. The plan was that she would go next to the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh and possibly the Coronation, but basically she’s to get a break with a view to later in the season.

“We’d be thinking two runs after the break before the Arc, and maybe the Breeders’ Cup after that.”

How it panned out

Success Days made most and it appeared Ken Condon’s four-year-old would take some passing with Found buried in behind the two leaders, while Fascinating Rock faded out of contention late on.

John Joseph Murphy’s Hot Sauce, ridden by Kieren Fallon, also showed up well and looked a contender with two furlongs to run, though as soon as Found was in the clear there was only going to be one winner.
