Caulfield trip against Cup favourite Fame Game
Australia: Connections of Emirates Melbourne Cup favourite Fame Game have warned that Saturday’s 1m4f Group 1 Caulfield Cup is likely to be too short for the five-year-old as he steps up his preparation for Flemington next month.

Trained by Yoshitada Munakata, Fame Game is the 8-1 favourite for the Melbourne Cup over 2m on November 3 and was beaten a neck by Gold Ship on his most recent outing in the Tenno Sho (Spring) over 2m in May.
Fame Game is usually given a hold-up ride in his races and Munakata believes his runner will only be working his way up to top gear when Saturday’s race reaches its climax.
“The distance is a touch too short for him, I think he is better over further and we just have to do the best we can over this distance,” Munakata told racing.com.
“It’s been five months since his last run so that is a bit of a concern of course but he will do his best and I’m sure he will run well. He’s in good condition and I’m very happy with him.”
British runners
Fame Game, who is bidding to become the second Japanese winner of the Melbourne Cup after the success of Delta Blues in 2006, takes on 17 rivals at Caulfield on Saturday including British raiders Snow Sky and Trip To Paris.
Northumberland Plate winner Quest For More is first reserve for the race.
