The Qipco 1,000 Guineas came and went without long-time favourite Found turning up at Newmarket, but there is still at least one chance for her to become a Classic winner with the Ballydoyle star heading the market.
Having been so impressive in the Prix Marcel Boussac, Found spent winter and spring looking the one to beat on the Rowley Mile only to miss the contest due to a hold-up.
Rather than pitch her into the race lacking a vital edge, O’Brien decided to wait 24 hours and ran her in the Group 3 Athasi Stakes at the Curragh, in which she was upstaged and beaten into second place by 25-1 shot Iveagh Gardens.
Undeterred by Found’s reappearance defeat, O’Brien remains enthusiastic about the big-race favourite. He said: “Found is an exciting filly and her performance at Longchamp last season was very good.
“She just got tired in the very testing ground in the Athasi. We’ve been very happy with her since and this race was always been the plan. We’re looking forward to the race and have made no plans beyond it.”
As the only Group 1 winner in a field lacking the first, second and third from Newmarket, Found is a best-priced 15-8. She heads a three-strong Ballydoyle challenge, which is supplemented by Kissed By Angels and Qualify, for a race with a special place in O’Brien’s heart as it was in 1997 that Classic Park’s victory provided him with his first Classic success.
