Mullins plans Haydock and Ascot raids

WILLIE MULLINS’ increasing willingness to travel horses to Britain to contest the big Saturday meetings  is again evident in the entries for Haydock and Ascot this weekend. Mullins unveiled six possibles for Saturday’s meeting at Haydock, while three of his powerful squad could be heading to Ascot the same afternoon.

In Haydock’s stanjames.com Champion Hurdle Trial, Ireland’s Champion trainer has engaged Blood Cotil and Marito, who could lock horns with one of last season’s top novices Melodic Rendevous and French Grade 1 winner Ptit Zig, trained by Paul Nicholls.

Also among the ten entries for the Grade 2 contest, won by the likes of Rooster Booster in  2004 and Celestial Halo last year, are hat-trick seekers Act Of Kalanisi and Desert Cry, whose last two wins have been over fences.

Mullins has three entries – Sizing Tennessee, Sure Reef and Valseur Lido – in the Sky Bet Supreme Trial Novices’ Hurdle on the same card, while Turban could represent him in the Golborne Graduation Chase.

Haydock’s card could also play host to the chase debut of Gevrey Chambertin, a full brother Grands Crus who has won five of his eight races to date for trainer David Pipe. The talented grey could take on the likes of Taquin Du Seuil, Dark Lover and O’Faolains Boy in the Grade 2  Racing Post Celebrates 200,000 Social Followers Novices’ Chase.

At Ascot Mullins could rely on Supreme Carolina in the OLBG.com Mares’ Hurdle, although she also has the option of running in the Grade 2 Keltbray Holloway’s Hurdle on the same card. Other Mullins possibles in the race are Clonard Lad and Haydock entry Marito.

In Ireland, 2009 Champion Bumper winner Dunguib features among the entries for the Grade 3 Limestone Lad Hurdle at Naas on Saturday. The now 11-year-old was was last seen in action finishing eighth in the 2011 Champion Hurdle.
