Fryday 01/02/2013. CAPETOWN NOIR LOOKS GOOD THING FOR CAPE DERBY. The doubters are questioning whether he’ll see out the 2000m trip but Capetown Noir looks to have too much class for the opposition when he lines up for the Investec Cape Derby over 2000m at Kenilworth on Saturday.

CAPETOWN NOIR LOOKS GOOD THING FOR CAPE DERBY

The doubters are questioning whether he’ll see out the 2000m trip but Capetown Noir looks to have too much class for the opposition                                                              when he lines up for the Investec Cape Derby over 2000m at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Dean Kannemeyer’s stable star produced a jaw-dropping performance to win the Cape Guineas in December, hitting the front about 400m out and cruising home with a ton in hand. The way he went about his business there suggested that he won’t have any trouble stepping up in trip, given that he had so much in reserve and even if he is not quite a 2000m horse, his sheer class should see him home against opposition that simply doesn’t look to be in the same league.
Sanshaawes looks best placed to chase the favourite home. Although only a one-time winner, he has plenty of decent feature race form to his name, having run well in defeat behind such smart contemporaries as King Of Pain and Chave De Oura before finishing fifth in the Guineas itself. He should relish the step up in trip and looks a must for the trifecta, provided he is over the problems that saw him scratched from the listed Politician Stakes three weeks ago.
Paterfamilias never got into it in the Guineas but he is capable of a good finishing kick and ran on late when fourth to King Of Pain and Capetown Noir in the Selangor Cup. He is another one that seems to looking for some extra ground and he should be on the premises at the finish.
Ze Kaiser was a rather unlucky second in the Politician Stakes, charging through late  and encountering traffic problems along the way, only just failing to catch Love Struck. He is another one who should enjoy the extra furlong here and has place prospects.   Silvano’s Jet (third) and Patriotic Rebel (fourth) were just behind Ze Kaiser in the Politician Stakes and are worth considering  for inclusion in the quartet, along with Gray’s Champ, who stayed on for fourth behind the promising Alexandra Palace in Sea Cottage Stakes last time out.
